The deck lay-out of Tonnerre is kept as clean and simple as
possible. For instance the mainsheet is invisible, because it is under the deck and also
the foreguy and trimlines of the Genoa tracks are hidden under deck. At the end they are
directly led to clam cleats.
The spinnaker equipment is actually very traditional, with two guy blocks
on the widest
part of the boat and two sheet blocks at the back of the boat. There are also two
barber haulers installed on the side. They are controlled by the same person who does the
foregut. In 2002 a block on bow is added to rig a Tack line for the
A-Sym spinnakers which where added to the sail wardrobe in 2002.

To trim the Genoa's and jibs there are 2 cars lashed together with a VectranŽ strop. That
way it is possible to carry Genoa's up to 140 %. Again everything is out of sight and only
single VectranŽ strops are visible.
The primary winches are 3 speed special designed Harken winches. The runners, the engine
of the yacht, are connected via a 1:3 reduction blocks to very strong winches. The
runners can easily create a tension of 8000 pounds in the forestay.
There are two wheels installed to steer with, the advantage of this system is that the
helmsman is able to steer on both sides of the ship. The system is also safer because it
has got 2 VectranŽ steering cables. The wheel has got a diameter of 1200 mm and is made of
carbon fiber. To turn the rudder from port to starboard the wheel need to be turned 1.6
times The Piano is placed in on top of the couchroof in front of the cabin entrance. The
piano is actually pretty simple with only 2 fractional wing halyard, a topping lift,
2 topmast halyards and the mainsail
halyard.
