 The
basic principals for the Lutra Desgin Group design were to create a very balanced and set boat. With main features like a high stability and a waterline which almost
stays the same length under an inclination. Similar concepts were very successful on the smaller
"Bolwerk" and other designs, which are design by Ad
Konijnendijk.
In practice the yacht is very light driven with very good downwind
qualities. Also the upwind performance will be good because of the
deep drafted keel which creates a high stability.

 Because of the fractional rig it
is possible to sail in a bigger windrange, without changing the genoa a lot.
In the first half of 2003 a new mast will be made by Hall Spars Breskens.
With this mast Tonnerre can carry Masthead A-sym and sym spinnaker and
Code-Zeros.
Together with the big roached main the total package contributes to a better "reaching performance".
Tonnerre can create easily double figures on the log. The basic concept is
enjoyable to sail and performs well on almost every course. The boat is built and designed
as a true offshore racer.
